The examination Fenya did not sign up for!
When the patella met resistance – the home turf edition
Vet Natali is our regular veterinarian and has followed my dogs for many years. She always comes to our home, so it is not just a vet visit – it is home turf. That also means that Fenya is usually in her element and feels completely at ease in her role as hostess.
This time it was time for the annual vaccines for both Frida and Fenya, and at the same time we had ordered a referral via DKK for a patella examination of Fenya with a view to breeding. The vaccines? Smooth as butter. No drama. No protests. Pure routine.
But… then we got to the knees.
When Natali began examining Fenya’s patella, Fenya quickly realised that this part of the programme was not on her agenda. She definitely did not like the way the knees had to be pressed and felt – and she made that clear with a distinct little growl. Not aggressive. Just very clear:
“Excuse me, but I did not consent to that.”
Afterwards, Fenya looked uncertainly at Natali, became slightly offended and demonstratively sat down at the other end of the sofa. Grumpy pinscher. Very grumpy pinscher.
After a bit of friendly chatting, and once all the dogs had been fully examined, a small miracle happened: Natali brought out some treats. Fenya accepted them with dignity – and suddenly the friendship was restored.
Conclusion:
The patella was examined.
The vet was forgiven.
And the sofa once again became neutral territory.
