First and foremost, Frida is our retired family dog and has never been used for breeding, as she does not have a pedigree. However, that does not change the fact that she is an absolutely wonderful dog, and her background is well known, as she comes from our own home breeding – despite the fact that both of her parents have pedigrees. It simply was never registered correctly with the Danish Kennel Club (DKK) at the time.

Frida has been a part of life for many years and has had a great influence on the way life with dogs is lived today. She has been there all the way and has left a clear mark on both everyday life and the interest in the breed.

With age, she has begun to show signs of what is best described as a form of dementia. At times she can seem a little confused, but fortunately there are things she never forgets – especially not her mealtimes. The sound of a crinkling treat bag can still make her instantly forget all uncertainty and instead come running, happy and full of anticipation.

Today, Frida has poor vision in one eye due to cataracts, which means she can sometimes become more insecure than before, especially if something unexpected happens around her. In addition, she has started on incontinence medication – yes, old age comes to everyone.

Because of this, she needs extra consideration, calm surroundings and fixed routines in everyday life, so she can feel safe and make sense of the world around her. She thrives best when things happen in the same way every day, and when she knows where her people are.

Despite her challenges, Frida is still an incredibly loving, gentle and mild dog. She gladly seeks closeness and comfort from her people and enjoys lying close, where she can feel calm and cared for. She has a calm and friendly nature and meets the world with the experience and dignity that only an older dog can have.

Frida has done her part – and more – and her role today is simply to be loved, cared for and allowed to enjoy her senior years in safe surroundings with plenty of love, patience and small, precious moments.
