A little update from the whelping box 🖤💛❤️🤎

Fortunately, everything is going really well with both the mother and the little ones. They are developing steadily, gaining weight nicely, and following a healthy, even curve during this first, important period.

There has been a brief flare-up of mastitis (inflammation of the mammary glands), which was responded to quickly. Mastitis is an inflammatory condition in the mammary glands of lactating bitches, which typically occurs when the milk is not emptied evenly from all glands and bacteria are able to enter the area at the same time. It can cause pain, swelling, and affect milk production.
If it is not treated in time, it can develop into a more serious condition where:
• the milk may become unsuitable for the puppies
• the bitch may develop a fever and become generally unwell
• in the worst case, abscesses can form in the udder
• the puppies risk not getting sufficient nutrition
Therefore, there was extra attention from the start – Fenya has plenty of milk for two very satisfied (and slightly chubby 🤭🐶) puppies, and this increases the risk that some glands are not emptied equally.

Therefore, action was taken quickly and it was managed by:
• Pain relief and support for the bitch
• Frequent emptying of the affected mammary glands
• Massage of the udder to stimulate flow
• Warm, moist compresses every 2 hours to loosen and soothe
• Close observation of both bitch and puppies
• Ensuring that all teats are once again accessible to the puppies

Already yesterday, her condition was stable, and today she once again appears completely normal with a steady milk production – which is clearly reflected in the puppies’ excellent weight development. Both puppies show a stable and continuous weight gain without any drops or stagnation. Within the first week alone, both puppies have almost doubled their birth weight, which is a sign of good well-being, sufficient milk intake, and completely normal development.

The weight curves show a steady increase, which is a very positive sign that the puppies are growing healthily without any signs of weight loss or nutritional challenges.

Life continues with calm, fixed routines and close monitoring – while the little moments in the whelping box are enjoyed to the fullest 🥰
